When I really want to freak someone out,
I tell them this.
When I first got into this business, the personal computer had not yet been invented.
All cameras used film, and we used something called the Zone System to meter.
Whoa, dude.
I smile. Because it’s been so exciting. And right now is the most exciting time of all.
Aside from facing unprecedented challenges starting with the economy, innovations such as social networking and tactics like viral marketing and crowd sourcing are giving us more opportunities to flex our creative muscles.
I can honestly say that, professionally, the past ten years have been the most exciting of my career.
In 2002, during a soft economy and no clients, I started a freelance business from scratch. In four years, I had a stable of prestigious clients all of whom at the time were facing challenges unique to their businesses.
While working at Digitas in Boston in 2008 on the General Motors account (talk about the perfect storm: '08 and General Motors!) I was let go. Not one to wallow, I applied and was accepted at Boston University's Masters program at Boston Playwrights Theater with a scholarship and a teaching fellowship, and completed the degree in playwriting in a year with a 3.96 GPA. My thesis play, the second full-length play I ever wrote, was a semi-finalist at the prestigious Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's National Playwrights' Conference.
In 2013, I started Boston Public Works Theater Company, which in one year gained national attention for its playwright-centric approach to play production. In 2016 I started another theater, Alley Cat Theater that is breaking new ground in Boston.
Creative. Driven. Entrepreneurial. If this is what you are looking for in a member of your team (and why wouldn't you?) please contact me.
